Director, Venezolano, residenciado en Los Ángeles. Estrenó su Opera Prima en el 2010 “La Hora Cero” rompiendo los récords establecidas por otras películas del Cine Venezolano y ganando treinta y cinco premios en festivales de cine internacionales.
Un año mas tarde Velasco fue nombrado como uno de los “Ten Mover and Reshapers of Latin American Cinema” por la revista Variety. En el año 2012, Anthony Zuicker el creador de la exitosa serie de televisión CSI, escogió a Diego Velasco para dirigir el lanzamiento de su nueva creación “Cybergeddon”.
La serie sigue la historia la agente Cloe Jocelyn (Missy Peregrym) del FBI cuya vida da un vuelco tras dar caza a Gustov Dobreff (Olivier Martínez), jefe de una red de cibercriminales capaces de desestabilizar al mundo entero.
La serie tuvo el debut mundial en más de 25 países en simultáneo y ha sido visto mas de un billon de veces. En el 2019, Velasco dirigió para Netflix un capitulo de “Orange is the New Black” que la revista New Yorker describió como “Brillante”. También ha dirigido para la comedia “Teenage Bounty Hunters” y la antología “Social Distance” para Netflix. Una nueva serie escrita y producida de manera remota durante la pandemia de COVID 19. Su mas reciente de trabajo en TV fue para la serie “Diary of a future president” para Disney+
Director Diego Velasco was born in the States but raised in Caracas, Venezuela. His first feature, La Hora Cero (The Zero Hour) broke all Venezuelan box office records and garnered 35 festival awards. The Lincoln Center’s Film Comment Magazine called it “rare and special: an intelligent, finely constructed and wonderfully acted feature with a subversive message and a sting in the tail.”
His first US project, Cybergeddon, was a digital crime-thriller from visionary storyteller and CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker. True to its cyber nature, the film, which stars Missy Peregrym and Olivier Martinez, had a day and date release in more than 25 countries via Yahoo! — surpassing over 1 billion views.
On the TV front, Velasco directed the immigration episode for the final season of the Emmy-Award-winning Orange is the New Black, an episode which The New Yorker singled out as “brilliant.” He also directed for the comedy Teenage Bounty Hunters (created by Kathleen Jordan, produced by Jenji Kohan), Diary of a Future President (created by Ilana Peña, produced by Gina Rodriguez), and Gentefied (created by Marvin Lemus & Linda Yvette Chávez, produced by America Ferrera)
Velasco served as the Producing Director for the second season of Twenties (created by Lena Waithe). He was also the Producing Director for Social Distance, the first scripted anthology to be produced remotely during the COVID 19 pandemic (created by Hilary Wiseman Graham and produced by Jenji Kohan).
Velasco’s next feature, The Whistler, is a thriller based on the Venezuelan legend of the same name. The script, written by Carolina Paiz (Orange is the New Black, Narcos) was selected for the Sundance Writers lab. His most recent TV Directing credits include the soon to be released series This Fool (Hulu) and Grease, Rise of
the Pink Ladies (Paramount+).
